Original American Tail Artwork

I own this original hand painted American Tail Artwork - I'd love to know more about what the art was produced for if anyone recognizes it - I guess it was produced for a book, comic or maybe merchandise like a jigsaw puzzle? - It's quite large at approx 17" x 13" and as you'll see from the image is to big to fit under my A3 scanner. I would be very grateful if anyone does have information regarding the piece.
